It is self- watering, according to the description. The poles are metal and easily hold up the mesh covering which will keep out critters I am hoping. I think these are really good product, the bamboo is sturdy and nice looking, and I think there’s a lot of creative ways to be used. These are a little taller than I would’ve liked, so I’m glad I got the 3 foot ones to go along with them.
