The concept that 'decreasing atmospheric pressure predicts stormy weather' was postulated by Lucien Video and it's the basis for a weather prediction device called a storm glass or liquid barometer. It consists of a glass container with a sealed body, half-filled with water. A narrow spout connects to the body below the water level and rises above the water level, where it is open to the atmosphere. When the air pressure is lower than it was at the time the body was sealed, the water level in the spout will rise above the water level in the body and when the air pressure is higher, the water level in the spout will drop below the water level in the body. Also includes a comfort meter, which measures temperature and humidity, and a comfort zone indicator.

Weather Forecasting The weather forecast or pressure tendency is based on the rate of change of barometric pressure. In general, when the pressure increases, the weather improves (sunny to partly cloudy) and when the pressure decreases, the weather degrades (cloudy to rain). The weather forecast is an estimation or generalization of weather changes in the next 24 to 48 hours, and varies from location to location. The tendency is simply a tool for projecting weather conditions and is never to be relied upon as an accurate method to predict the weather. The barometer includes a manually set needle, which is used to mark the current measurement so a change can be seen. Barometric readings should be taken daily. Remember that the rate of change of barometric pressure is important in determining weather changes. You may want to take multiple readings each day during periods of unstable weather conditions.

The clock automatically synchronizes the time several times a day based on a radio signal from Fort Collins, CO (WWVB). The Radio Controlled Clock never needs resetting and is accurate to the second. The clock automatically adjusts for daylight savings time and your time zone. An override daylight savings time feature is available for residents in Arizona. The reception attempt for the daily automatic synchronization with the radio time is performed several times a day. One successful synchronization per day is sufficient to accurately set the clock to the second. Includes 24 time zones throughout the world. The display allows you to choose from temperature, humidity, dew point, and heat index. For example, you can view channel 1 temperature, dew point, or heat index from a user-friendly display. High and low alarms can be set for any of the measured parameters. The audible and visual alarm will sound when a value is out of range. The outdoor remote sensors include dip switches for channel selection and units of measure (degF vs degC). The sensor search mode allows you to re-sync sensors without removing and re-inserting batteries. Optional temperature and humidity calibration are provided for the utmost accuracy, Although calibration is optional and not required, the purpose of calibration is to fine-tune or correct for any sensor error associated with the device's margin of error and inevitable sensor drift associated with electronic measurements. The measurement can be adjusted from the console to calibrate to a known source. Includes minimum and maximum temperature and humidity display with an easy reset option.
