We specifically bought this bookcase because the description stated the shelves were metal. Upon arrive, however, the shelves were MDF (manufactured wood) which is the very thing we were trying to avoid. It's a great desk! It's exactly as described - everything fits together perfectly and it's very sturdy which is what I was hoping for. No issues with delivery, it got here sooner than expected. The assembly instructions recommend 2 people but I managed to do it on my own in probably about 3 hours (with several interruptions). Only issue I had with assembly is that at one point it is possible to lose a screw within the hollow metal leg if you're not extremely careful. I also managed to drop the allen wrench down that same hole while trying to fish the screw out - took me probably about 15 minutes to completely remove the leg (thankfully I have an extra set of allen wrenches), get the screw & wrench out, and then reassemble that portion of the desk. But other than that I was able to put it all together by myself - though when it comes time to flip the desk (you build it starting upside down) you may need an extra person depending on your strength..
