Solid ash hardwood and veneers finished in a golden oak stain, 8 individual piece octagon frame surrounds the raised gold finished bezel and convex glass protective lens, the traditional cream dial has Classic Arabic numbers and a “railroad track” type minute scale with spade metal hands. The lower case protects the swinging pendulum and has a glass lens screened with the classic “Regulator” term noting an accurate timekeeper. This clock had Bulova’s harmonic II Plus 20 separate melody chime movement, which includes the Traditional Westminster chime and separate hour count as well as a selection of Holiday tunes on demand. Venice is known for many things, the canals, the plazas, and of course the cafes. Though founded in the mid-1800s, Cafe Venezia remains a functioning establishment to this day. This is a very pretty clock. I got the one with the darker face...the black background. It is not as bright as it is pictured in the write up on the website. I do not think I would have bought it if I had seen it in person, but it is pretty, and I have it hung so I will keep it. I do love the pendulum. Some people had complained about loud ticking...I hear no ticking at all. It keeps good time. I think you would like it, just be aware it is not a bright clock. Perfect for a den or a study. The clock is quite handsome, and the overall appearance is better than expected. The color is exactly what I was looking for. The brown is very rich with just a hint of red. Dark but not espresso. A little light and it really brings out the character and color. The clock isn’t real wood but it isn’t plastic, which you get on some (often cheaper) clocks. The engineered wood does keep it lightweight, however. My one complaint is to get the clock and chime working is hair-pulling. I followed the directions to a T and the problem is the little hand keeps falling down to around the 6 o’clock mark when you try to set the time. I ended up getting it to work but without the chime..
