The finish is not peeling and I don't feel that food safety is an issue as the cuts aren't deep and no visible fragments are getting into my food (should that happen I'd discard immediately). To Use: Hold the bottom of the sharpening sleeve and gently remove the knife with opposite hand. Blade edge will sharpen as knife is removed from the sleeve, as well as inserted into the sleeve. Includes: chef knife with self-sharpening blade cover. Hand wash with warm water and a mild detergent; rinse and dry immediately; wipe protective, blade cover as needed with a damp cloth.

My grill is near 12 years old and it was pretty nasty. I love all things scrub daddy. I am pretty impressed with the ease and transformation this brush did to my grill.
