Masai Red

Originally designed in 1945 for Gino of Capri restaurant, affectionately known as “Gino’s” by New Yorkers, Scalamandré restored the Zebras wallcovering at this iconic Upper East Side establishment in 1973 after the walls were damaged by fire. Flora Scalamandré, wife of Franco Scalamandré, skillfully hand-drew the signature motif, which would later become the renowned Scalamandré Zebras design. This lively pattern depicts two Zebras prancing around politely placed arrows set against a lively colored ground. Latte

Combat on foot between contestants separated by a waist-height barrier was a popular sport in European courts during the 16th and 17th centuries. Our Saxony products are inspired by the patterning on combat armor commissioned for Christian I of Augsburg during the 16th Century. The gilded adornments cover the breastplate and additional detailed areas to give the work a sense of craftsmanship and regal delicacy. The design is embroidered on linen and cotton fabric to emulate the decorative ironwork pattern of the armor's breastplate. The fabric is paperbacked for the wall and its dimensional stitching evokes a sense of delicacy, which juxtaposes the inspirational iron artifact itself. This stately wallcovering would make a memorable grand foyer or an elegant dining room and coordinate with Saxony Embellished Tape. This lively hand-block printed fabric, which was first created in 1922, features a stylized "Tree of Life" motif. The wallcovering pattern is digitally printed, on a grasscloth ground, with pigment-based dyes that fully emphasize the color variation typical of hand block printing. Directly interpreted from the fabric, it has been rescaled to make a coordinating grasscloth wallcovering.

Pewter

The Milanese Armor that inspired our Milan Diamond Grasscloth and Appliqué Tape is a unique example of Italian armor made with German influences. Created around 1510, this rare example with fluted surfaces in German fashion is etched with Christian symbolism and references to the Bible, including images of the Virgin and Child and saints Paul and George as well as Latin inscriptions. The armor is adorned with richly gilt ornamentation that we’ve emulated in our products, which will add charm to any room they’re featured in. This wallcovering is made of laser-cut metallic cork appliquéd on grasscloth. The mix of materials in this textile creates an interesting texture that is both eye-catching and understated.
