The only downside is the amount of space that it takes up when the gate is being left open which for us is 43” We have doors on both sides of the gates so if the gate is left open in either direction you slam into it with the door. The distance projection from the face of the handrail to the wall when installed is approximately 3.75 inches. High strength construction meets load requirements of 200lbs or more. The handrails are designed to have a minimum of 1.5" clearance from the wall to the back of the handrail to meet standard clearance code requirements (see images for technical dimensional drawing).
