I purchased the LG LDTS5552S dishwasher and have experienced a persistent chemical odor since the beginning of ownership. The smell is difficult to describe precisely, but it resembles heated rubber, vinyl, petroleum products, or synthetic plastic. The odor becomes stronger as the dishwasher heats up and appears to be emitted from the lower vent area. The problem occurs even during normal operation without using the High Temp or Extra Dry settings. Over the past year I have tried numerous troubleshooting steps, including cleaning the filters repeatedly, running cycles without detergent, using dishwasher cleaning cycles, and removing additional plastic accessories from inside the machine. None of these actions resolved the issue. The dishes themselves do not retain the odor, but the heated air emitted by the dishwasher does. The smell is strong enough to travel beyond the kitchen and can sometimes be noticed on the second floor of the house. After more than a year of trying to live with this issue, I have stopped using the dishwasher altogether and returned to washing dishes by hand because I am not comfortable having my family continuously exposed to the odor. What concerns me most is that this odor appears whenever the appliance is heated, suggesting that materials inside the unit may be releasing volatile compounds into the air. I do not know whether LG has evaluated the long-term impact of breathing these emissions during routine daily use, but I believe this is a legitimate concern that deserves attention. I am disappointed because otherwise the dishwasher performs well. If LG is aware of this issue or has a solution, I would genuinely appreciate a response. Great Product! Highly Recommend! Price fluctuates on this, but I got it on sale for around $48. I wanted to get the 8 spray model S-2251, but it costs over $100 for 2 more spray heads. So I got this and took off the restrictor (search you tube) and I have the lever set in the middle where it sprays nice thick hot water and gives me a good massage. I think I spend less time in the shower because there's more water to clean all the soap off. Try it with the restrictor and with the black rubber off, and without the whole restrictor. We have been very happy with our Cafe' dishwasher since installation. It is very quiet and performs very well. We haven't had to rewash anything yet. We usually run our diswasher each night and if it wasn't for the app telling me when it was done you wouldn't even know, thats how quiet it is.
