Use the Allen key that looks like a wine bottle opener! These chairs are beautiful, sturdy and very comfortable, but they take a few hours to put together. The first chair took me forever to assemble, but I used it as a learning experience. I learned that I could have saved myself a ton of time if I had used the provided allen key with the red top (looks like a wine bottle opener), instead of the conventional one that was also provided. I also learned that I needed help from someone else for a few stages in the process because it saves a lot of time. Things went a lot smoother and faster when I put together the second chair. I have been wanting these for awhile and finally decided to purchase. Shipping was delayed about a week, not sure why, but once I reached out to customer service I received them in a few days. NOTE I was delighted to find the Allen wrench with the handle which is better than what you normally get with furniture but after spending about 45 mins putting the first chair together ( about 10 long screws) I realized there was a straight Allen wrench to use with a cordless drill. Second chair took 15 minutes tops. Would be easier with 2 people to hold the parts together while starting the screws. One chair the top of the back didn’t want to fit into the slot.
