Or I suppose it could be for overflow There was no diagram of the rain barrel explaining all the nuances. This 50 link kit is your tool for expanding the capacity of your 50 collection system. Though some people are able to buy multiple barrels that hook up to separate downspouts at their home, others may have obstructions that remove that option or make it difficult to work around. That's why manufacture has designed their rain barrels to be linkable. This way when one rain barrel is full, it will overflow into the rain barrel next to it. The good and the bad: The GOOD - 75 gallons, is sturdy, is attractive, basic design is excellent, excellent followup customer service. The BAD - product was shipped in a plastic bag allowing the spigot to be half-way torn away, spigot is lightweight. My solution: rather than exchange it for another with no guarantee it wouldn't be damaged during shipment I replaced the spigot and threaded section with a more substantial bulkhead union and a more robust spigot.
