Since our rain barrels are made of high-density polyethylene plastic they can be left outdoors even in the winter months so there is no need to modify your downspouts in the spring and fall. The exact shape of the barrels may vary due to availability but the color and size remain true. Because these barrels were originally used to transport food, there may be residual food product odor. The residual odor will dissipate after a few full barrel-filling cycles. We use a ph-balanced, environmentally friendly soap when cleaning so that the water gathered can immediately be used on plants without harm. These barrels keep difficult to break down plastics from adding bulk to landfills and also contain and repurpose stormwater.

The metal has a brushed age looking patina already straight out of the box which lends to almost an antique look. The edges are not sharp, and with the little hook at the top it is a cinch to hook wherever you’d like. It’s purpose to sit at a drain spout and allow the rain to fall down in between the butterfly however, I’ve kept it mostly indoors, although the first little bit that I had that I kept it outdoors to check for durability which it was perfect. I like it on my curtains as it is decorative, a special kind of accent. There’s a ton of different things you could do with it, I believe.
