This was an experience. First, I couldn’t clear the utility lines at my house but my friend’s deck was perfect. We started out confident, but it didn’t last. The wrenching apparatus was our downfall. In the end we decided to forgo the winch process and hung it only using the locking mechanisms. The sail is great. It feels strong yet pliable and it’s the perfect shade of summer red. Today I got the package for silk lampshade. I have 7 orient lamps all with silk shades. The one I got early 2001 with beige scalloped shade with plastic lining until it turned brown and cracked. I have bought a small silk lampshade at lamp shop before. It was over $100 and now I am retired. I need a new shade so badly and I tried Wayfair and looked carefully with sizes. It’s affordable. Got the shade and touched carefully. The fabric is really silk! So I placed on the lamp. Sides was correct 12 inches. The bottom and top was 1.5 inches short. With the prolonged winter in the mid-Atlantic, it finally got warm enough to install this. This is an extremely well-made and equipped sail. The material looks really good, and it is substantial, fairly heavy grade. The material is porous, so don't look for this to resist rain. All the hardware is provided. You don't have to go to the hardware store for anything. The ratcheting winches were easy to install and they do the job. The mounting rings on the sail and the edge wire reinforcements are solid and look like they will hold up under the stress of wind that the sail will undoubtedly need to endure. We love this so far!. I wanted to get this installed as soon as possible but as one end requires a post that needs to be cemented required digging near underground lines, we need to wait for "Miss Dig" to show up to let us know it's safe. However, as we all know what shade sails look like I wanted to take a minute to talk about the construction. This is hefty. The ends are crafted with a double row of stitching with upholstery thread (10x the strength as regular sewing thread), the fabric isn't one color but a mix of white and maize which adds a depth to it and will hide dirt better than a solid beige color, fabric is thick and sturdy, and the fact it comes with all the installation hardware is a bonus. Perfect for the hot summer days in Coastal SC. This rectangle Royal Shade measuring 18 x 24 ft covers a large sitting space in our yard and more! We are thrilled with the ease of hanging. Mind you, we hung it out a few days to allow it to stretch out before really placing it where we wanted it. Do hang on an angle so water will run off...we imagine we will still have to push up the center to drain off if a heavy rain, but we haven't had that yet. Such a nice shade!! This puts our old shade to shame. I am very happy with the upgrade. I was leery about the winch situation but when I figured out how I wanted to mount it, it turned out working perfect. The instructions give you three different ways to mount the winches and all the hardware is included. I was able to use the house hooks from old shade and just added the winches to the opposite side. this is a replacement for an older shade. Found the eyelets to be superior in this Royal unit but have not had time to install but from inspection the stitching is the key.
