The locking twist-knob does not require the key to engage the lock. In order to open the hasp, the twist-knob must be unlocked with one of the two keys that are provided with the lock. This kick plate is constructed from aluminum and it features a removable PVC protective coating. This kick plate will provide full coverage on 36 in. wide doors. Works really well. We have used them all over the house over the years.
