It would work well for a dog too, but know that the outer wall has no rigid backing - just the pillow edge. Big dogs that like to lean against the outer wall will be disappointed. The cover is easy on /off, and can go in the wash. There's even a handle on the back. The "non-skid" backing isn't particularly tacky, but might help on a short nap rug?
