I ordered this to donate to the foster program at our local shelter, and boy are some Mama kitties and their kittens going to love it. :) It's really soft - soft fuzzy fabric and soft walls around the outside The pad itself is comfortable, but firm enough to not squish down eventually. It would work well for a dog too, but know that the outer wall has no rigid backing - just the pillow edge. Big dogs that like to lean against the outer wall will be disappointed. The cover is easy on /off, and can go in the wash. There's even a handle on the back. The "non-skid" backing isn't particularly tacky, but might help on a short nap rug?
