I waited a little bit to write this review because I was really frustrated after unpacking the box. There are no instructions on how to assemble as a crate, it only included instructions on use as a playpen. When you go to the Hiddin website there are videos of the crate assembly that show it being super simple, which is generally true, but out of the box, all of the pieces are still covered in the paper used to cut the acrylic. It does not come off in one sheet, so it took a significant amount of time and I ended up with several cuts on my knuckles from the sharp edges of the acrylic. I was really disappointed in the amount of time and the amount of mess that was required and unboxing the crate. I expected it to be a lot smoother given the premium price of this product. The unboxing aside, the crate is nice easy to take apart and clean. And also seems sturdy as our high energy, muscular dog tried to test whether or not she could escape and was not successful. The wood is strong enough for indoor but I don’t think it would last long outside in the elements. I didn’t use the roofing material that came with it since I have it inside the house. I bought this crate as it is approved for Alaska airlines -this is a 500 series and for a 72-pound labrador who will be flying in the cargo hold. Assembly is easy enough, no tools needed, and the crate has enough space for my lab to turn around inside and sit. It feels very secure and the door of the crate has small holes on all 4 corners so that it can be secured via zip ties for travel. This is one of the very few crates available and approved for air travel, so I am happy I found it and it shipped very quickly as my lab needs to practice her crate training before our flight. What I do not like about this crate: - plastic wing nuts to secure the bolts aren't ideal, they should just include the aluminum ones by default. I had to buy the aluminum ones separately. - quality control issues - there are 3 missing washers because of which the corners cant be secured. Without the washers, the bolt just slides through the hole. I had to purchase washers separately, a set that includes 9 sizes, as I do not know what size is appropriate here, which is an additional pain point. As small and insignificant as a washer might seem, it is a very important component as the crate will be useless without. The Outdoor Dog Kennel is fantastic. This is a two-person project. You can put it together by yourself, as that is what I did. However, it takes 2 to 3 times longer to put together by yourself and at times it is very hard to maneuver the enclosure by yourself. The dog kennel is big enough for two large dogs and still leaves plenty of room for them to play with each other, and run around. There are two draw backs for me. The first is that the gate/door is hard to open, when you unlatch the top latch, and then go to unlatch the bottom latch, then the top latch will close again. Therefore, you will need to open the top and bottom together. Second, the gate/door does not stay open. I would like the dogs to be able to go into the enclosure for shade while I am at work, but since the door cannot stay open they would not be able to get back out.
