The wheels were not allowed while traveling but were handy once the crate was disassembled to make it easier to move around. Improvements: - The area where the wheels attach got pretty beat up, would be nice if there was something else to put on top while not using the wheels. - the handles on top are plastic, and although they should be used just to move the top of the crate, one was missing when I returned back to Texas. I recently assembled this dog crate/furniture piece, and overall the process was fairly straightforward. However, there were a few moments where the instructions weren’t entirely clear. A couple of times, I had to flip or reorient pieces differently than shown in the manual in order to properly align the parts and screw in the rings. If you’re assembling it on your own, I recommend taking your time and double-checking each step before fully tightening everything. Once assembled, I’m very pleased with the finished product. My large-breed dog fits comfortably inside, and the crate feels solid and well-built for everyday use. The storage surface on top is a great bonus — it functions perfectly as an end table and provides extra space for décor or everyday essentials. Could have been fancier could have come in a different color. Backside is not that pretty and black screws on the pickled gray color weren't very attractive. I bought a PVC screen online from a big box store as they say and my husband used a couple of screws to attach it to the back, because that's what divides our living area. The screen was almost exactly the size width and height of the unit. No cutting necessary. We needed one that was 40ish inches and this at 47 and 23 in deep worked for our purpose. It serves divider and lamp table as well as dog house, between our living area and dining den in a long narrow room. I preferred quite a few of them, but most of the sizes in the pretty furniture ones, were between 55 and 80 to 90 in long. That just would not have worked for us. It was easy to put together just follow directions and make sure you have everything before you start. Took my husband a couple of hours. Going slowly to do it correctly. We're used to this sort of assembly. So there were no surprises. The drawers have rails so they slide easily and they hold a whole bunch of stuff. One of the reasons I chose this one over another one that was about this size is because on that one, the drawers as they were called were actually just wooden boxes that you shoved into cubbies. They did not have rails they did not slide back and forth easily. I couldn't have stood to hear that noise more than once. So this is lovely with nice sliding drawers. I have 20ish pound shelties who love to curl up and they took to it immediately. It's very nice for the price which was on sale plus I had some Wayfair points. So if it doesn't work out I can always give it away and not worry about that. I'm still looking for a really cool mid-century one that is about this size but this will do for now. I've got the top covered with plants and lamp and collectibles and photos and all kinds of things and it really does hold a lot of stuff. It is very very sturdy, and I guess I appreciate the fact that the wood is I don't know MDF or something, because real wood would smell like real stain and I don't want that kind of annoyance in the house or for the dogs. There is prettier furniture around, but what the heck we never entertain nobody will see it but us and I think it's just fine it's kind of a warm brownish Gray. Feels real nice on the top and latches easily in the latches can be locked. So far so good did I mention how sturdy?! I have provided a photo of the back side of this thing because no one anywhere I looked at reviews, had shown that and since this part faces our living room, I was interested to know just how finished it was and it is finished and though it will be covered up by chair or sofa or something, it's still is not something raw behind, it can be freestanding. Good value, good purchase. would have preferred the doors to be sliding doors back and forth, and or that it had latchable doors at either end. But this is a pretty decent design and the good reviews about it are warranted. By the way if you're putting something together like this you may find that the pre-drilled holes can be a regular sometimes. If they are a little tight, you can sort of stick a screwdriver in them and twist it around until you break off a little bit of the area. Or just start screwing in the screws and it will make its own way. If the holes are pre-drilled too large find a couple of toothpicks to stick in there to make it tighter. This is a great piece! It was a little bit of a challenge to put together (I mixed a few steps up). Between my husband and I we figured it out though. Great Pyrenees puppy (7 mos old) for size reference. It fits her comfortably. It has several options like a spinning foodwater dish (we didn’t install the food bowls because the baby would eat the dog food). But conceptually it’s nice to be able to crate and feed as needed. It also has three sides that open including an attractive sliding door and two ends that fully open. As you can see, the top serves as a changing station for us but could have multiple uses. The product itself is great. It's exactly what I needed for my anxious dog. I purchased from Wayfair because of shipping options. I didn't want the product damaged during shipping. When the package arrived it was beat up. We had to repair ons of the latches. This crate is perfect. The packaging protected the product during shipping. The instructions were easy to follow (not always the case with furniture). It took less than 30 minutes to build and it is solid, which is great because our dog is an escape artist! I was a little worried by the 1 star and 2 star reviews about the latching hardware not being good. PLEASE IGNORE THOSE! It is obvious that they missed an important step in the instructions regarding spring loaded latches for the inside of the left front gate.
