I actually purchased more crystals to add another layer and it became obvious how much more those new crystals looked like glass versus the ones these come with, but it wasn't a difference that anyone other than me (being super up close to it as I was putting them on) would notice. Overall, I'm very happy with the purchase. By the way, if you plan to add chain, this company does sell chain separately (at other retailers) in the specific colors to match the chandelier. I really like this chandelier and my husband found it very easy to install. My only complaint is the shades were a little cheap looking, looked like they had been spray painted but it was easy to fix and not expensive with a new set of shades that I ordered that come in different amount pacs.
