Overall, I like these a lot. I wanted something sturdy and basic in this room which houses my home office because I also have a lot of dumbbells and they were on a weight rack which I found to be somewhat unsightly. I had to deduct a star because I could not get the latches attached to the lid, no matter how hard I tried and the pre-drilled holes for the hinges were really not acceptable. In both of these chests, the middle pre-drilled hole was missing entirely. The others were just barely drilled and so I had to ask a friend to come over and help me get the screws fully screwed in. In the photo, the box looked lovely. In reality, the wood was unfinished and seemed pieced together so the grain was uneven. The lid fit oddly (though it did fit). Assembly could have gone smoother. My drill was too big, my screw driver was too big. Some holes werent pre drilled and yet, by time I put it together (which I didnt realize I was going to have to do) I absolutely loved it. I would give it Five Stars but my only issue is the larger box got pretty banged up during shipping and the frame separated a little bit which prevents the box too from closing correctly. I love how solid and sturdy the crate is. The wood does have a lot of very large knotholes on every side (not shown in the photos) but my main complaint is that I ordered the color “white” but when the item arrived it had no stain of any kind—it’s raw wood. I was expecting “white” to mean that a whitewashed or “pickled” stain was used instead of a dark finish like the other 2 options offered. Have built one of two so far. Nice solid wood. Not a huge fan of the plastic inserts twist in design for the construction, but you get what you pay for.
