This is a very soft area rug! I got a pad for underneath it but you probably wouldn’t need one. The cats LOVE it. We needed a living room rug that would blend in with our floral chairs and accent the room nicely. We like rugs with thicker piles. This rug worked perfectly. The colors are muted enough to not fight with our chairs. It is a bit more yellowish than the picture showed but it works for us. The carpet layer smooth from the beginning.
