At first it seemed more bold of a pattern because of all the black in it but I rotated the rug because there was less black on the other side of it and that worked much better. The rug is of moderate comfort- its not plush or lined with any padding so I did not expect it be super comfortable out of the packaging. Im sure a rug pad under it will add to comfort if you will be standing for a while on it. I have not washed it in the washing machine as it is too big to fit unfortunately.. Veronicae37. I bought this for my high traffic entryway and wasn't sure if the light colour would show dirt (for reference I have 2 large dogs and a teen who rides horses).
