Both are used in bedrooms - one needed to have the portable as it is an egress for fire dept. Anyway, in the past the portable units I bought from LG as well as De'Longhi ALL had a coupler to snap into place. This helps to keep the hose where it needs to be. Your unit even has the tabs to snap said coupler into the unit. BUT there was not one provided. Am thinking Frigidaire forgot this as opposed to thinking it was not needed. The hose does not attach to that base and could easily come out. I hate to duct tape it as it will definitely leave sticky residue and frankly when I pay this much for a unit, I expect it will have all connectors included. It works exceptionally well and I love its features, like how the vents move in opposite directions for maximum breeze and how the temperature display is also a thermostat. Portable is debatable, because it weighs 70 lbs. I am not strong, and I thought I would need to hire someone to help my husband get it up 2 flights of stairs. But then I cut out two holes near the top of the box to use as handholds and that provided all the extra help I needed. After it was delivered, I let it sit there for a couple of days and then I did not turn on the AC for another two days after dragging it up the stairs. The only problem was mine, because the window frame is 26 inches wide and the panel where the hose attaches and feeds out is almost 27 inches. I had to measure the excess and use a small hacksaw to saw off the tiny bit of excess plastic. Luckily this was not particularly difficult! The dampness in the air disappeared quickly, and now it runs only when needed. We’re collecting a full tank every three days instead of two tanks a day in the beginning to get the air comfortable. I may eventually connect it to a permanent drain, but for now I like the flexibility of moving it to different areas as needed.
