One of the biggest strengths of this planter line is the variety of sizes available. There are everything from shallow bowls to very tall, narrow planters, which makes it easy to find something that fits your space. I chose one of the medium-tall versions, and it works great for larger potted plants. I think these look even better when paired with the optional wooden stands, and I regret not picking those up at the same time. The overall style fits a modern or industrial design really well. I have both the horizontal and vertical stripe versions. The textured finish helps break up the surface, but these are still clearly plastic planters with a bit of that plastic sheen. Of the two styles, I prefer the vertical stripes. The horizontal-striped black planters remind me a little of plastic drain tile, while the vertical pattern looks more refined. I also really like the versions with both directions of stripes. For the taller models, I fill the bottom portion with wood chips before adding soil. It saves money on potting mix, keeps the planter lighter, and still leaves plenty of room for roots. Even only partially filled, these planters are sturdy and heavy enough that they do not feel tippy. Overall, these are attractive, well-sized planters that offer dimensions that are difficult to find elsewhere. I was very pleased with the size and appearance of the two vases exactly what I needed. However, the problem was separating the vases once I removed them from the very sturdy box. They shipped stacked together inside the box and wrapped in plastic, which was probably cost effective, but very impractical from a customers perspective. Long story short, I sprayed WD-40 along the rim and plastic, waited 5 mins, lightly tapped along the rim with a hamper, then pulled on the plastic, and they came a part easily at that point. I am OBSESSED with these! I've loved window boxes since living in Germany in the 1990s but always had a hard time finding ones to fit my deck railings. I've done the wire holder with plastic box and they just looked blah. These look amazing! I can't wait until the grass grows tall and petunias and sweet potato vines spill over. We used these on our back patio and added faux shrubbery to add some greenery. These are metal and VERY sturdy. You could even put bricks or rocks in the base if you live in a windy spot. We did not need to. Inside, there is a medium level area to fill with dirt to plant. So if you were actually putting living plants, you wouldn't have to pay to fill the entire thing with dirt. They’re perfect. They’re a little lightweight. There is a hole in the bottom but you have to unplug it. I bought these to convert to summer window screens on my 1958 house in Albuquerque, NM. In the summer, the morning sun hits my back windows directly and puts a lot of heat into the house (and I don't want to replace the original steel window frames). I cut the feet off of the screens and made brackets from 1.5" aluminum angle to attach to the window trim, plus legs to support the weight. The screens are very heavy, and the plastic geometric sections are fairly thick, which is nice. The frame is sturdy and the black finish is durable. Although the description says that these can't be painted, Rustoleum 2X seemed to adhere after scuffing the surface with a Scotchbrite pad and acetone. (We'll have to see how it holds up over the summer.) My only issue with these is that the panels bow in the sun. These are made in Canada, so maybe they're designed for Canadian sun and not the high desert. :) It could be exacerbated by the fact that I have the frame horizontal, but the panels were bowing when I had them individually upright to spray paint. I would have tried the steel ones but was less confident that I'd be able to get the rust off for a clean painting surface. It would be great if these were offered in a primed steel option for painting. Overall I'd say these are pretty nice, but would work better in a shaded area, or go with the metal version.. James.
