We love our Murphy Bed! My husband and I put it together which took about 4 hrs. We recommend having two people to assemble it. I liked putting it together and the directions were easy to follow too. The reason I did 4 stars out of 5 is because there was a scratch crack in one of the major pieces and we were already halfway done with putting it together and needed it the next day, so we werent about to take it apart to order another. Also, one of the screw holes broke on the locking piston upon screwing one of the screws in and we didnt even screw it in that hard. The only thing I thought could use some improvement would be with the hinges where a mattress lay. This has been an amazing addition to our small (Park model) summer place. Simply an attractive piece of furniture when not needed, but comfortable sleeping space for company. About a billion pieces, but I (72 year old woman) was able to put it together myself. Granted, not without a bit of colorful language from time to time, but got it done at the end of the day. The final product fits great in our guest room/office! It took 3 days to build with 2 people (we definitely had to call in a 3rd for when we had to connect the 2 main pieces together). This could have taken a shorter time to build if the instruction booklet was a lot more explicit and if the parts were better labeled. Also, we had to open all 4 boxes to find the parts we needed for each step of the process - this was a major obstacle because of space constraints (the whole reason why we needed a Murphy Bed was because the room was small). The product description is not explicit on the mattress thickness - in the installation manual it says 8" max, but I got a 9.5" thick mattress and it still works. It was worth it because we got it on sale, but I wish there were pre-installation instructions so we could have been better prepared (i.e. I wish we knew to get better/longer hex keys, screwdrivers or drill bits that can fit into tight corners, the correct hardware for bracketing this to the wall, clamps and levels, etc.).. We really appreciate that the bed pieces are all wood. No particleboard at all! It took a while to put together, so we would say to allow extra time before someone needs to sleep on it. Be patient and you’ll have a great piece! Our wall studs did not match up to the suggested positions for the anchors, so we adapted that to our needs and used two extra anchors. The hydraulic arms are very strong, so you need to be careful with the construction to have someone hold the top vertical if opening the bed while under construction. Once the anchors are in place, the unit is absolutely solid and when a mattress is added, the pressure from those pieces do exactly what they should - allowing the bed to lowered and raised smoothly and safely . Both the directions and holes predrilled were fairly easy to assemble. Due to the size it came in 3 sections but once the first was assembled it went much faster. We are pleased with armoire as far as the way it looks but the lack of the 5th star in the rating was simply due to the material in the outer pieces.
