Shope was a founding member of the Cowboy Artists of America and was a ranch hand and cattle driver before becoming a commercial artist in 1935. This depiction illustrates the major economic drivers for Montana in the margins, including trapping, mining, cattle and sheep ranches, and lumber harvesting and milling. This stunning piece also includes the most famous national park, Yellowstone. Pictorial maps bear a distinctive style and unique aesthetic that immediately transports the viewer back in time, creating an indelible bond between the past and present.
