Pediments are the portion of the trim that is located above the pilasters, which are the column like frames on the sides of windows and doors. Directly below the pediments though, between the pediment and the pilasters, is a crosshead or breast board. The crosshead is the flatter, protruding section directly above the door. Pediments can be purchased by themselves or can come with a crosshead already attached. These Pediments are manufactured out of a high density urethane, which is made to resemble wood without the maintenance required by wood products. Urethane products are resistant to cracking, splitting and rotting. They are usually less expensive than wood alternatives.

Let me preface this by saying I am a carpenter by trade, so maybe my expectations were a little higher than they should have been. I think these cross heads are a great product, but have a few issues. Maybe I got a “dud”, but the thing was warped/bowed like crazy. I had to manipulate the thing for about half an hour, glueing and fastening just to get it to sit somewhat flush and level. The pre-mitered corners had some issues as well. Not a flush cut, So I had to do a bit of work on it. For the price, and the convenience of not having to make it by hand..I’d say go for it! Just be sure you understand some work will have to be done to get it perfect. I also want to mention, I got a set of Pilasters from the same company, and those came out excellent! Highly recommend. Looks beautiful and very heavy. All metal parts as far as I can tell. Showerhead is much more heavy duty than it looks and the slider valve moves very smoothly and seamlessly. Have yet to install, but I'm pretty happy with this purchase. I was debating buying a much higher end set, but this looks very similar and seems to be of good quality, so I'm happy with my choice.
