Chinese designs came to England and her colonies with the tea trade. In the 1760s Virginia's governor ordered "bamboo chairs" for this Williamsburg "palace". Williamsburg cabinetmaker Edmund Dickinson owned a copy of Chippendales Director, the most fashionable furniture pattern book of the 1750s and 1760s. When he died fighting for the American cause in the Revolution, his Director was worth as much as his "new rifle gun". As part of the Williamsburg for Port 68 collection, Bamboo Trellis celebrates Chippendale in bright meadow green-on-cream porcelain. The pattern was inspired by the dining room chairs in the Governor's Palace. The hexagon-shaped lamp features aged brass finished hardware and ball finial.

That said, I have combined lush pattern-making with an experienced eye for what works on the wall, calculating repeat sizes and color fields to be perfectly balanced and extremely easy to use as a background for modern living.
