Other smart dimmers I found all wire into the switch. Since the switch goes to a plug, that means I'd be dimming both outlets. The remote switch allows me to wire the outlets normally so the other one can be non-dimming, and as a bonus, I got to add another switch on the opposite side of the room. My main gripe is that the switch isn't the most intuitive layout (particularly the dimming buttons), making it a little hard to use without looking.
