Built primarily with dense southern live oak, its hull was 21 inches thick in an era when 18 inches was common. Paul revere forged the copper spikes and bolts that held the planks in place. The 204-foot-long ship was first put to sea in 1798 and its most famous era of naval warfare was the War of 1812 against Britain when it captured numerous merchant ships and defeated five warships, including the H.M.S. Guerriere. It was during the ferocious battle with the Guerriere that British seamen, astonished at how their cannonballs were bouncing off the constitution's hull, cried out, ''Sir, her sides are made from iron'' hence, the nickname, ''old ironsides.'' the constitution today is a national landmark and is docked in boston.

Impressive model! I haven't even removed it from the packaging as yet. I am a woodworker and planning to construct a case for it as I did for the Independence, a model I finished this year. Only question I have is about the masts when first received. Upon opening the top of the shipping box I remember all the sails were 90 degrees to the hull. Now after 2 days, all the sails are 30 degrees to the left. I included a shot looking down at the model. I was interested to know if others have noticed this or am I mistaken? Also found this after unpacking (see picture) of rear mast warped at top. The other noticeable item was the size of the rigging blocks, obviously too large but can be overlooked as they seem to accentuate the model when viewed as a whole.. Greg. Gilroy, CA. Returning from his recent trip to Morocco, Ebern Designs has been reexamining his vision regarding color. The impact on his perspective from the places he saw in the cities of Fez and Marrakesh forced him to step outside of his comfort zone. The resulting pivot has been a harmony of earthy, rich tones of flesh, browns and copper complimented with greens, blues and deep purple.

This is museum-quality replica of H.M.S. Sovereign of the Seas, a first-rate ship in the British Royal Navy for more than 50 years in the 1600s. This is an "Exclusive Edition" where the model has a unique serial number etched into the hull, which allows us to identify production date, material used and all other production information of a model. Master craftsmen using historical photographs, drawings or original plans meticulously handcraft these highly detailed wood models from scratch. They are built to scale with high-grade wood such as: western red cedar, rosewood, and mahogany. I first saw this photo years ago on a poster and fell in love with it. "Battle Between the United States and the Macedonian, 25th October, 1812" by Alonzo Chappel depicts a pivotal naval battle during the War of 1812, where the American frigate USS United States, commanded by Commodore Stephen Decatur, engaged and defeated the British frigate HMS Macedonian in the Atlantic Ocean. This battle took place on October 25, 1812, early in the War of 1812, about 500 miles west of the Canary Islands. Stephen Decatur masterfully maneuvered USS United States to outgun and outmatch HMS Macedonian, crippling the British ship while sustaining minimal damage. After a prolonged battle, the Macedonian surrendered, and Decatur towed the captured British ship back to the United States, marking one of the first major American naval victories over the British. This victory was a huge morale boost for the U.S. Navy, proving that American warships could challenge and defeat the Royal Navy. The captured HMS Macedonian was later repaired and commissioned into the U.S. Navy.

This is a reproduction of Charles Patterson's oil painting depicting the batlle between the USS Frigate Constitution and the HMS Java, December 1812. The USS Constitution commanded by Captain William Bainbridge, exchanging broadsides with the British Frigate Java off Brazil early in the action. During nearly two hours of battle, Java was dismasted and had to surrender. Her damage was so severe that she had to be burned.
