It lays fairly flat, but you’ll definitely want a rug pad or some heavier furniture on it to keep it from sliding around. Absolutely beautiful rug!! It’s not overbearing. It goes with any decor. The plushness and softness under your feet is amazing! We used a rug pad under just for added cushion.
