It is hung with the 20 chain. For perspective, we replaced a 20 year old pile rubbed bronze fixture that was 18 in diameter. I had concerns the new light may over power the space but the scale worked out beautifully in the end. The only concern was the instructions. Beautiful chandelier but it requires a TON of work . I have put together many chandeliers over the years but this one was super difficult . I had help putting this together with my Dad who has done electrician work for years . There were parts missing including bulbs and one almost cracked palm leaf . This fixture is tricky ad it is a three way set up . It not only changes color schemes three ways but it also has a lightening bug finish . After hung it is stunning . I will say unfortunately I had to have two additional new switches installed in my walls to make this work correctly . Nico from Wayfair was helpful in sending additional shipment to be able to get this all figured out . There is no remote however seems it would work best with a remote . This was a tough review to write. First, the gold is in fact GOLD plated (meaning, this is not gold brushed). That's fine but may be jarring if you're not braced for it (there were no reviews when we purchased it). A few of the sockets broke during assembly, and taking it apart to replace them is going to be a major endeavor. Wayfair customer service was great, but apparently the manufacturer doesn't do replacement parts... Also, the instructions were quite possibly the worst I've ever seen.
