Nice heavy base with a consistent, matte finish. Although I measured, this does feel larger/look larger than what I planned on. This is a marvelous Lantern. I bought 2 and they are just right. The large glass areas make these lanterns gleam at night. I had a specific challenge with this purchase: I needed fairly large and handsome lanterns for the front of our handsome Colonial, but there is a mailbox permanently installed a certain distance below where the electrical out was. Wayfair had so many options, that I quickly found this one, that doesn't have anything projected from UNDER the lantern. So: variety, great quality, fair price, and quick delivery were all terrific..
