My wife liked a smaller santoku from our crummy knife block because it fit well in her hand and was more comfortable to use than my chefs knives but it was duller than Trump supporters. I decided to purchase this when it was on sale for a gift since Shun has a good reputation with their knives. It came plenty sharp and looks really nice on our magnetic knife strip with some other Japanese steel from my collection. My only gripe is that it doesn't hold its edge as long as I'd hoped it would. Even the best knife will lose its initial sharpness during the course of time. Using sharpening steel each time you use your knives will keep the edge aligned, resulting in a sharper, safer knife.
