I received this door and immediately loved it. I don’t know very much about doors and the considerations to be considered about doors but my daughter locked her puppy in the room and I’ve needed a new door since because in the process of removing the know the other door that I tried to fix was a basic door manufacturer door and just looked horrible. Since the door rolls on the floor, this system is not compatible with most carpet. Only a tightly weaved carpet is compatible with this hardware.This hardware has been cycle-tested to 20,000 cycles. The patented Houdini Hardware™ features concealed rails and rollers — this hardware is not visible on the wall, as it is mounted at the bottom edge and the back top edge of the door. Wheels mounted at the bottom of the rolling/sliding door roll directly on the floor, and carry 100% of the weight of the door. Since the door rolls on the floor, this system is not compatible with most carpet. Only a tightly weaved carpet is compatible with this hardware. Or the Wall Support Guide may be located aligned with or even spaced back from the edge of the door opening to allow the door to open to the full width or further than the wall opening. Refer to the online installation instructions for the Houdini Hardware for specific guidelines. And door size also depends upon if your wall opening is surrounded by decorative casing or molding. (Casing cannot be more than 1” deep). Determine the minimum door width: Two options - either the door opens to with full width of the wall opening, or the door can partially cover a portion of the wall opening. (For instance - for a bathroom door, you may want 4 to 6 inches of door remaining accessible after opening to easily access the door pull from the bathroom side of the door). To calculate door width to open exposing the full wall opening, then measure the distance of the wall opening and add 8” (wall opening width + 8” = minimum door width. The door can be wider than this). Example: If the wall opening is 30”, then a door size of at least 38” will be needed. **NOTE** IF YOU HAVE CASING/TRIM AROUND THE OPENING, AND YOU WANT TO COVER WHEN FULLY OPEN OR FULLY CLOSED, PLEASE ACCOUNT FOR THE SIZE OF THE TRIM WHEN MEASURING FOR THE DOOR WIDTH. FOR EXAMPLE: The door opening is 30" and your trim on both sides adds 6", then a door size of 44" or larger will be needed for a FULLY OPEN APPLICATION. For a Partially Open application, it is recommended that the width of the door is at least 8” greater than the width of the door opening. However, this application can be adjusted to a common width of the door. For example, if the wall opening is 30”, then a door size of at least 38” will be needed. A 36” wide door can be used by placing the edge of the door 2” into the opening. This will decrease the opening size from 30” to 28”. Determine the minimum door height: For a Door Boot mounted ON (and not IN) the bottom edge of the door, measure between the finished floor and the top frame, then add 1” (height of the floor to the frame + 1” = minimum door height). IF your door opening has decorative casing, then measure from the floor to the top of the casing and add 1” for the minimum door height. For a completely hidden and concealed hardware appearance, then mount the Door Boot INSIDE (and not ON) the bottom edge of the door. This requires routing an edge-to-edge slot in the bottom of the 1-3/4” thick door. To determine the door height for this installation, measure between the finished floor and the top frame, then add 3” (height of frame + 3” = minimum door height). IF your door opening has decorative casing, then measure from the floor to the top of the casing, and add 3” for the minimum door height.

Love this invisible hardware as a modern option to traditional barn door hardware. We bought several Iron and Glass Doors and Glass Reeded Doors from Wayfair and although the doors came with traditional barn door hardware we opted to purchase this Houdini Hardware and it was a fabulous decision. We were able to add a piece of poplar to the top of the door frame and we will paint it black to match the door, to allow for the hardware to fit as you need 2 1/2 inches of width to attach the hardware. This is a very nice looking door once stained and installed. My husband had to do a few modifications to mount over the studs. There are also slight gaps in the wood, where the horizontal pieces meet the vertical. I may notice them less and less over time. I gave it four stars instead of five because of that and also because it did require some skill in putting it together and making the modifications put. First impression: Very nice workmanship, color and texture very nice, dimensions highly accurate and consistent. Unexpected: The wood is not painted but somehow shrink wrapped in a clever textured durable plastic wrap that completely fools the perception that it is anything but paint. Triming: Cutting the bottom to vertical size with a hand jigsaw is not a problem. That revealed the durable plastic wrap was actually not paint. I have no idea if painting the wrap would be ok or not. Fitment into the closet cutout: My closet frame was poorly constructed by the builder. The frame is taller on the right side than on the left, and neither vertical side is actually square. Both tops are skewed to the right relative to the footing, and the right side frame is taller than the left. This made it a real challenge to installation and left me with unappealing visual gaps. My options were rework the top left closet frame (big job, messy, drywall and mudding involved, painting afterwards) so I vetoed that idea, or take off the left doors and use a planing sander to bevel the doors to conform to the distorted frame (vetoed that idea because of tricky and only get once to get it right), or cosmetically hide the visual distortion by using a fascia treatment on the doors repurposing inexpensive plastic self-adhesive door sweeps and that worked easily and generally is quite appealing as a workable solution. Recommendation to the manufacturer: Review my photos to understand how my solution suggests you include accessory plastic fascias for cosmetic treatments when fitment to closet frames is difficult. Overall: I struggled a lot to get a good installation but attribute it to my closet framing poorly constructed. The end result looks and functions very nicely, especially after applying my door sweeps fascia treatments. I include a final after-treatment photo. I needed to replace the previous cafe doors I purchased because my daughter’s dog destroyed the one door in seconds when she came for a visit. My return was a complete nightmare on the second pair I ordered by accidently hitting the wrong size that was beside the size I needed. It took me from 12/1224-1/2/25 to get FedEx to pick them up. Your Cat for a return and 4 people later was a waist of HOURS, until I was referred to someone higher up by e-mail and she was very helpful and problem resolved & doors picked up the following day. I replaced my old blind bi fold that came with my condo to these updated ones. It fit properly and looks nice. The only issue I had with them were they were so heavy for me to install myself - I had to hire a contractor to put them up which cost more money than the closets unfortunately!
