Manufacturing or shipping defect leads to easily marred surface. First one had highly visible chipped off area exposing the wood composite underlay of the desk table top. Even second replacement top has noticeable scratch that we will live with. Table top is a very heavy piece! The replacement process has left us with the choice of a difficult disposal ourselves or another appointment for pick up of the defective piece. It has a 1.25" thick high-pressure laminate whiteboard top that's durable and easy to clean. The top has an attractive edge that won't crack or peel. The solid cast iron round base has leveling glides to prevent the table from wobbling on uneven floors. The steel has a 3" diameter and is made of 16 gauge steel.

Overall, this table is great. I like that the quality is solid and my kids are able to write on the table. Thickness of the table is good. The only complaint I have is that the bottom of the table only had pre holes for one leg in the center of the table.
