Light and color tussle for our attention in this endearingly captured social ritual of the 19th century, taking tea. The artist's sister, Lydia Simpson Cassatt is rendered with sketch like abandon in a composition that was included in the 1879 French Impressionist exhibition in Paris. Mary Cassatt's parade of pink as well as her energetic brushwork form a dance that underlines the physical presence of the objects she paints with a delicate, domestic truth. The authentic stretched canvas replica painting captures the original work's texture, depth of color, and even its subtle brushstrokes, which are applied by hand.
