The Drop System is composed of small blown glass droplets illuminated with warm LED lights. Custom Brass hardware is available in a variety of new finishes, like Mottled Brass and Tarnished Nickel finishes which are both oxidized and hand-rubbed, lending depth to the sleek hardware. Drop System lends itself to extensive customization by architects and interior designers to create an aesthetic ranging from restrained and minimalist to organic and indulgent. “This system is based on pure industrial design. Using brass tubing and mold-blown mini glass globes, the designer goal was to find the wild spirit within a seemingly rigid form. By creating a joint that allows the rods to dip and dangle gracefully with the force of gravity, the fixture, which can be custom-configured in infinite ways, plays with the vertical and horizontal while maintaining structural purity. The verdigris patina, created by a hand-rub of salt and ammonia, lends a blue-green algae tinge and a bit of underwater mystery; in mottled brass or tarnished silver finishes, the slender tubes look as though they might have been salvaged from a shipwreck—studded with lichen or pearls. The fluidity of molten glass is used perfectly to describe a shower of giant hand-blown and silvered drops, raining from an unseen source. The playfulness of scale engages and delights as moving liquid is rendered permanent. The Raindrops are lit from above as well as within. A series of small lamps are placed amongst the light to reflect off the mirrored surfaces of each individually shaped droplet. Suspended dramatically over the water, mirrored Raindrops, each hand-blown borosilicate glass piece had to be carefully coordinated and meticulously strung to ensure the fluidity of the shape. The fixture ‘PAGODA’ is manufactured in mid century, circa 1970 (late 1960s or early 1970s). Forty glasses with a pagoda pattern are hanging on a nickel plated metal frame. The lights have great volume and in reality they look much bigger than you would expect it from the dimensions. It is documented in the Kalmar catalogs from the 1970s. Due to the vintage nature of this lamp, there may be some nicks or imperfections in the glasses.
