It is like a spotlight....shines directly downward and does not emit any light to the sides so basically we just have one spotlight in the middle of our room. This outdoor wall lamp light up your porch or patio . We just added a deck and wanted a more substantial light than the builder grade. I liked that it had a dusk to dawn feature. It is quite large and striking. It only has a 60 watt maximum.
