We LOVE this thing! Best upgrade ever. We purchased a sufficiently rated countdown timer switch with intervals that seemed appropriate for a bathroom heater (Leviton DT102 15-30-1h-2h) and have been enjoying this heated mirror so much. A brief ON will defog the mirror, while 15 minutes ON (switching on a bit before getting into the shower) is long enough for it to heat up fully and make a huge difference when stepping OUT of the shower. 30mins is great for getting ready on a very cold morning. The mirror optics seem very clear and high quality. We did not do the installation ourselves, as it was put in during a whole house rewire the electricians opted to put in a recessed outlet box behind the mirror and just plug it in there, rather than hard wiring it. This will preserve flexibility going forward. Because it was going in a very particular place, and we have plaster rather than drywall, they opted to install cross pieces of plywood secured to the wall, and mounted the mirror to the wood strips. It’s very secure-feeling. My one negative point is the thing gets so warm that it’s not comfortable to lean my face close (bad eyesight) for putting on make-up. This is something that might require finessing your timing if it was your only mirror, or setting up a small well-lit mirror in another location. We've put it on the wall and powered it up and everything seems to be working as it should. I haven't yet measured the surface temperature of the panels but my "touch test" suggests it's at or close to the 158 degree advertised temperature. It also seems solidly built, so I feel confident it will hold up over time. Standard bath towels, first folded in half, fit pretty well, although they hang just a touch over the end. We also did a "hardwired" installation, with the wire running behind the wall to the junction box. This involves a little extra work, including cutting off the plug and stripping the wires, but it provides a "cleaner" look and in my view is worth the effort. My one modest complaint is that the wall anchors that are included don't feel sufficient for long-term hold, particularly on the 4-bar model. I strongly suggest that you find a stud for mounting, and use "wing" style anchors where a stud is not available. This is what we did and it now feels quite solid.
