Had some initial issues upon receipt of this Murphy Bed Desk in that the manufacturer wasn’t the same as what was on the website or my order however once the issue was satisfactorily resolved and we opened the boxes, the furniture was outstanding! The final product fits great in our guest room/office! It took 3 days to build with 2 people (we definitely had to call in a 3rd for when we had to connect the 2 main pieces together). This could have taken a shorter time to build if the instruction booklet was a lot more explicit and if the parts were better labeled. Also, we had to open all 4 boxes to find the parts we needed for each step of the process - this was a major obstacle because of space constraints (the whole reason why we needed a Murphy Bed was because the room was small). The product description is not explicit on the mattress thickness - in the installation manual it says 8" max, but I got a 9.5" thick mattress and it still works. It was worth it because we got it on sale, but I wish there were pre-installation instructions so we could have been better prepared (i.e. I wish we knew to get better/longer hex keys, screwdrivers or drill bits that can fit into tight corners, the correct hardware for bracketing this to the wall, clamps and levels, etc.).. Overall the kit is nice, It took me about 14 hrs so far to put together the bed section and the cabinet with the drawers. The last cabinet will be quick and i still have to anchor everything to the walls. The total project probably takes 20hrs for a individual who is somewhat skilled at these things. My issues are mostly around the instruction booklet. They are not laid out in a useful and logical manner. You have to flip between pages to find out where things are packaged and then build up your pile of parts before starting a section, also they suggest you start with the bedshell but it is most logical to start with the cabinets. It also has some steps that make more sense to be performed in different orders to minimize movement of the objects and make your life easier. They also don't always specify the orientation of parts which is VERY important for later steps. If the instructions were better i probably would have saved 3-4 hrs of labor. Assembly took ~6 person hours with a couple of mistakes that required taking some pieces apart and reassembling. Multiple pieces were not labeled with numbers and the instructions were somewhat difficult to follow. This piece is very sturdy but note that it weighs ~240 lbs in total. Converting it from a cabinet to a bed is definitely a 2 person operation as the top is quite heavy. A 6" trifold mattress just barely fits - it makes it hard to use the latch and puts pressure on the front panel such that it slightly bends outwards. We are still in the process of putting it together as it came flat box shipped. There are 27 steps.but so far it is really well made of solid wood.
