We LOVE this thing! Best upgrade ever. We purchased a sufficiently rated countdown timer switch with intervals that seemed appropriate for a bathroom heater (Leviton DT102 15-30-1h-2h) and have been enjoying this heated mirror so much. A brief ON will defog the mirror, while 15 minutes ON (switching on a bit before getting into the shower) is long enough for it to heat up fully and make a huge difference when stepping OUT of the shower. 30mins is great for getting ready on a very cold morning. The mirror optics seem very clear and high quality. We did not do the installation ourselves, as it was put in during a whole house rewire the electricians opted to put in a recessed outlet box behind the mirror and just plug it in there, rather than hard wiring it. This will preserve flexibility going forward. Because it was going in a very particular place, and we have plaster rather than drywall, they opted to install cross pieces of plywood secured to the wall, and mounted the mirror to the wood strips. It’s very secure-feeling. My one negative point is the thing gets so warm that it’s not comfortable to lean my face close (bad eyesight) for putting on make-up. This is something that might require finessing your timing if it was your only mirror, or setting up a small well-lit mirror in another location. Heatwave is an Electric Radiant Floor Heating System by Heatizon Systems. The Heatwave floor warming mat kit includes a reversible, self-adhering floor heating mat that generates 12 watts per square foot. The complete in-floor heating system includes a 7 day, 5-event programmable GFCI touchscreen thermostat that can switch 120 or 240 volts and up to 15 amps. The floor heating thermostat comes with a built-in ambient air sensor and remote in-floor temperature sensor, allowing for maximum heating flexibility. The GCFI feature adds a layer of protection to the heated floor system and is required by most US/CAN building codes. The thermostat also features a sleek, touchscreen interface. Heatwave can be installed under many types of flooring to provide a steady, consistent and efficient under floor heat. The radiant heating is accomplished by fully embedding the Heatwave Mat in a cement-based compound mortar, thinset and/or self-leveling compound). Heatwave is listed to be installed in wet locations provided all installation instructions are followed. At about 1/8” thick, the floor heating element causes minimal floor buildup. Once embedded in a cement-like base, Heatwave can heat under tile, stone, laminate, vinyl, or carpet. While the Heatwave system cannot be cut or shortened, a variety of sizes and voltages to accommodate many size floors. For the Heatwave heated floor mat, simply roll out the right sized heating mat to cover the desired square footage and embed in mortar prior to installing floor covering.
