This gate is perfect and has features I didn’t even know I needed! I originally bought a pet gate from another site, that just had the bars, and no plexiglass. Unfortunately, my cat kept trying to shove his face through, and I was worried about him hurting himself. The latch could also be opened if he were to jump up and pull down on it, and the gate had a lot of play in the middle, so it would wobble back and forth. I returned it and got this gate. It took care of all of the issues I had regarding the first one! No more fear of my cat trying to push his face through the bars, the latch is cat proof, and it is much more stable! I didn’t even have to add the bonus hardware half way up to add to the stability. I also love the added feature of the door swinging both ways, as it makes it easier to keep my cat back who tries to get out at times when I am coming through the gate. In the end, it worked out well as a compact bookshelf for the bedroom. One of my favorite features is the built in lighting. The brightness is adjustable, which makes it great for softer nighttime lighting. I personally don’t use the touch slider controls very often because it also comes with a remote, which is honestly really convenient since I can adjust the lights without getting out of bed. I wasn't sure at first that these would work because the tongue that fits under the books is quite thin, but they hold up the books perfectly. They don't have any felt feet, and there is a join at the bottom that isn't flat, so I worried they might scratch the shelves, but the bottom feels smooth and the bookends don't move, so, so far so good. The design is adorable, and I enjoy noticing the little cat faces, which isn't often, since my bookcase is painted black. They might work better on a paler bookcase. Only four stars because the black finish has already chipped off of one in one small but noticeable spot, and because I think the lack of felt feet and the exposed join point might be a problem for some, or over time..
