The wood is strong enough for indoor but I don’t think it would last long outside in the elements. I didn’t use the roofing material that came with it since I have it inside the house. I wasn't sure at first that these would work because the tongue that fits under the books is quite thin, but they hold up the books perfectly. They don't have any felt feet, and there is a join at the bottom that isn't flat, so I worried they might scratch the shelves, but the bottom feels smooth and the bookends don't move, so, so far so good. The design is adorable, and I enjoy noticing the little cat faces, which isn't often, since my bookcase is painted black. They might work better on a paler bookcase.
