Glass cooktops use a thermal limiter switch to protect against overheating by shutting down power to the element should it become too hot. When the limiter on these elements fails it will usually totally prevent the element from heating and the element needs to be replaced. If this is happening to your glass cooktop, the dual radiant heat element is an exact replacement for the Electrolux part with the same number.

This element has temperature-limiting capabilities to reduce the risk of cooktop oil and grease fires. The number one reason for household fires is cooking-related, so retrofitting with this safety surface element makes sense on a lot of levels. Us regulations require all new coil top ranges to have temperature limiting capabilities. This retrofit replacement element has a silver medallion with a button (sensor) in the center of the coil. This button must contact the bottom of the pan for the thermostat to sense the temperature properly. When the thermostat detects a pan temperature above the safe limit, the element will shut off automatically until a lower, safe pan temperature is reached, then heat will resume to the element. This will not affect everyday cooking, as automatic shutoff is temporary and only happens at very high temperatures.

I’ve got a fairly long and steep concrete driveway that is starting to show its age a little bit. There has been some minor cracking from the freeze-thaw cycle each winter. I decided to try the Armour SX5000 water-based sealant to see if it would improve the situation. I have delayed writing this review for a bit as I wanted to driveway to go through at least one winter season. I first pressure washed the entire driveway surface which is pretty time consuming. I then applied the Armour sealant with a manual pump sprayer. This part went fairly quickly. The trick is to get the sealant covering the driveway well, but not so much as to create puddles that aren’t absorbed. I made sure there was no rain in the forecast for a couple of days. Initially, I did half of the driveway first and the first day that it rained the difference on the two sides was very noticeable. Water on the coated side was beading and running off and on the other side it was being absorbed into the concrete.
