Then I can add cold water and I have enough to do my dishes and then some! I turn it back down to the lowest setting after and I have warm water to wash my hands and such. I had to kick this up to 5 stars because it is just what I needed to get my hot water in the cabin! Makes life so much easier in the country. This hot water heater does heat up 4 gallons of water that you can heat up to the max and add cold water so you have hot water for the entire load of dishes. Oh I am glad I got this one! Replaced a gas water heater after 30+ years. Initially it saved a lot compared to electric. But LP gas has gotten so high that I felt I was not saving anymore.
