nicely made polystyrene pieces which are well designed, but require an expert carpenter for a quality installation due to slight variations from piece to piece, injected molded from similar but not identical molds. Per my carpenter, these were convenient, but required a tremendous of finesse and adjustments at every miter joint to look right. Quality glue (PL Premium) and a solid substrate that will not move (a grid of 1x3's glued and screwed to ceiling joists) are essential for stability. Overall "a wash" in terms of time and expense compared to having full boxes and mouldings constructed the old fashioned way. For the curved bay windows straight pieces needed to be hollowed out, bent, and carefully glued and tacked in place under high tension. Perfect! It elevates a wall and it's very easy to work with. It stays straight (unlike those rubber pvc rollable moulding). It's similar to a foam board but it's sturdier. It was easy to cut with shears. Using construction adhesive to stick to the wall, it was a breeze to put up. It's also paintable. I didn't need any primer. Just a couple coats of paint! Ekena Millwork ceiling medallion collections are modeled after original historical patterns and designs. Ekena Millwork artisans then hand carve an original piece. Being hand-carved each piece is richly detailed with deep relief, sharp lines, and a truly unique touch. That masterpiece is then used to create a mold master. Once the mold master is created Ekena Millwork uses Ekena Millwork high-density urethane foam to form each medallion. The finished look is a beautifully detailed, lightweight, solid construction, focal piece. The resemblance to original plaster medallions is achieved only by using Ekena Millwork high-density urethane and not vacuum-formed, "plastic" type medallions. Medallions can be cut using standard woodworking tools to add a hole for electrical or a ceiling fan canopy. Medallions are lightweight for easy installation. They are fully primed and ready for your paint.

I know there’s quite a few reviews on the medallion not fitting properly together. I may have been lucky because mine fit perfectly. I will tell you if you are looking for something that will fit around your canopy this will not fit if your canopy is 5 inches in diameter which mine is. My canopy fit perfectly centered in the middle but on top of where the medallion meets if that makes sense. I ended up having to cut mine to fit around the canopy because if I hadn’t I would have had to buy a longer screw for the canopy so it could sit lower then where it sat before. Canopies are meant to sit flush against the ceiling so there’s not much room to lower it. The medallion is about an inch or so thick. The medallion arrived on time and was well-packaged, arriving in good condition. Overall, it looks nice and should work well for my project. The only reason I’m giving four stars instead of five is that some of the edges are a bit rough and will need a little sanding before installation. Other than that, I’m satisfied with the purchase..
