This worked out even better than I'd hoped. For one thing, it's a lot more solid than most flat-pack, self-assemble pieces. The desk and hutch top in particular are almost as hefty as real hardwood. And although it takes a bit of effort to put together, the machining and alignment of parts was really good (at least for my unit). It's not unusual for some of these to need a little extra help squeezing things together because a couple of the pre-drilled holes are ~1/32" off true in different directions, but not this time. One caveat: because it's nice and heavy and doesn't skimp on the fastener points, getting the hutch bolted onto the desk can be pretty tough if you're doing it solo. You'd need a hell of a strong back if you wanted to stand over the desk holding the ~40lb hutch arms wide while you gently line it up with the 8+ bolts sticking out from the desktop. I managed to make it work by putting everything together face-down on the floor and shimming the hutch up with a couple of foam mattresses, then standing it up once everything was bolted together. Fortunately, the sturdiness of construction meant I wasn't worried it would split under its own weight while I levered the whole thing upright. P.S. Few things to note 1. Don’t try to swap the drawer sides or you have a massive gap on the side from the desktop 2. The instructions show you the sides swapped with the flat side of the shelf unit facing out - this is a dirty trick. Don’t try it or you off center desk. 3. Swap step 8 and 7. You’ll thank me later. 4. 2-4 hours is a lie IF you follow the directions. I had to rework 3 times which put me at 5-6 hours of putting together. 5. I waited 5 months for this desk to come back into stock. Although it’s the look I wanted, the rework and cussing was not to my satisfaction. The top was damaged during shipping but Wayfair is so good at getting replacement parts so we went ahead and put together so I could set up a small office area at home. Overall I'm happy with the desk. Feet were missing but I was easily able to let customer service know who will be shipping out new feet. Solid wood so the desk feels sturdy.
