Amazing what sticks in your head as an artist. One such memory was a project at craft camp as a child. We layered colored sand under glass to create patterns. This vase is made in amber-colored interiors with pale blue exteriors. The Interior and exterior are originally shiny glass until the artisans apply a chemical etching to the exterior surface to help create a soft texture giving contrast to the shiny interior. The final design has been hand "pulled" while still molten into the shapes you see here and also "pinched" on the front edge to add special emphasis to the bulging shape where the trip originates.

From the deep cold waters of the sea to the rocky sandy shorelines, the inspiration for the Baltic ruffled large vase was begun. The textured base in it's beige color of the shore gives way to the rough white splashes as it eases into a calming blue.
