There’s more on some than others, but it’s a significant amount of work to wash it off thoroughly. I’m using these for food storage, so I have to do the cleaning. From reading online, the residue is likely from metal polish I wish the manufacturer did a better job removing this before shipping. Aside from that, I’m very happy with them. Stainless Steel canisters are dishwasher safe, hand wash and dry immediately recommended to keep shine. The lid with seal is not dishwasher safe as the silicone gasket may deform with heat.
