Dark-colored fabrics tend to radiate heat while also darkening the space, and lighter colors and stripes will retain less heat and maintain a better light balance.

I purchased two of these awnings for the back of my house as it is West facing and gets some extremely hot temps (100+ degrees) in the summer. I went with motorized for ease of operation. The 120 volt motors work quietly and consistently. Mounting them 10' off of the ground was a bit of a pain, but I hired some help after I had the mounting brackets done. The no assembly was essential for me, I didn't want to be screwing around with several parts. The draw backs to these awnings are as follows. 1) the packaging was poor and allowed several "dings' on the exterior covers and exposed metal. It didn't affect the operation of the awnings though. 2) The manufacturer appears to be out of business, and thus no customer support except through Wayfair. To be fair, any of these products that are made and shipped from China will have little to no customer support. Wayfair did offer an adjustment for the damage the awnings sustained that I was satisfied with. The awnings are solidly built, so hopefully no service will be required for a long time. I did have to figure out how to adjust the awning arms without the benefit of customer support. I was able to find similar awnings on U tube and was able to accomplish the adjustments.. Marty.
